Anita Saarkessian

Anita Sarkeesian, a Canadian/American media critic is also a public speaking event organizer. She is the founder of Feminist Frequency which is a website that features videos and comments on the representations of women in pop media. Anita Sarkeesian is an award-winning feminist journalist from Canada and a blogger. Feminist Frequency, a web-based resource dedicated to education, which examines women's positions in the pop culture narratives It is the brainchild of Anita Sarkeesian. Additionally, she serves as the director of operations. Aiming to dispel the myths related to women in popular culture, she also works to address issues relating to harassing women targeted by the media and different classes of individuals on the internet. Sarkeesian who has a Master's in the field of Social and Political thought at York University, is a sought after public speaking. She has delivered speeches at TEDxWomen's XOXO Festival and the United Nations Broadband Working Group to Gender. Passionate about issues of gender identities and feminisms from at an early age, she created her own website Feminist Frequency in 2009 while still a student at the university. Someone who hoped to start a web-series examining the gender representation of video games was targeted by an online campaign. But the harassment did not discourage her. It only strengthened her in her role as a feminist journalist. Sarkeesian has been awarded several awards for her contributions to feministism. Anita Sarkeesian won awards for her work as a critic of the media, and she founded Feminist Frequency. The nonprofit examines how women are depicted in contemporary pop culture.
